New Story Ratings
The MPAA have decided that 'fandom' may not use their system for rating stories. Therefore, 'fandom' has created its OWN rating. Hopefully, this rating system will become common enough throughout fandom to make the MPAA jealous of US!

I'd like to ask why there seems to be a distinction betwen the treatment of slash and the treatment of hetereosexual "smut." Ostensibly they're the same, from a ratings system perspective... (kissing, graphic whatever, etc.) Might I encourage the list administrator to "even up" these distinctions, since stories are also clearly labeled "slash" or "het"? So instead of: FRMFan R ated Suitable For Mature Persons -- stories may contain explicit heterosexual acts, high level of violence; and FRAO Fan Rated Suitable For Adults Only -- stories may contain explicit homosexual acts, extreme violence,

simply change to,
FRM Fan Rated Suitable For Mature Persons -- stories may contain somewhat explicit heterosexual or homosexual acts, high level of violence; and FRAO  Fan Rated Suitable For Adults Only -- stories may contain graphic and/or extremely explicit heterosexual or homosexual acts, extreme violence.

Just my two cents; technically, there is no difference between the graphic nature of heterosexual and homosexual interaction. The real difference is, alas, political. imho of course.

Sorry for the delay in responding to this! I thought I had replied but my comment must not have saved properly.

Unfortunately, homosexuality is separated out for the more political reason *sigh*. As you know, I'm a slash fan so I hate all of this bullsh*t and homophobia.

However, there are a lot of intolerant FANS out there - and, until that changes then the rating will have to remain as it is.

All I can say in my defense is that I even get fans complaining that I allow mild homosexual references in the FRT rated fiction!
